Thanks to the collective, I was able to finally get around to repairing my
"stuck in 1st gear" problem on my '83 V65 Magna this past weekend. The
repair was as simple as replacing the...

17. SPRING, GEARSHIFT ARM with Honda part number 24641-MB0-010 found on
page 1-D2 of the 'fiche.

I never did successfully make my own clutch nut socket. I really thought
I needed the room to work by removing the cluth basket. As was pointed
out in Robyn Lander's page... all that was necessary was to remove the oil
pump sprocket and just look in the right place. Once I found the right
place to look... it was obvious to me that I was missing a spring on the
"SPINDLE COMP., GEARSHIFT". Being a Saturday and knowing that none of the
local dealers had any springs in stock... I went over to my nearest Sears
hardware store and bought an assortment of springs. One fit. Only cost
me $0.68 for this repair. Definitely within my budget... :-) It's
amazing how quick a V65 feels after riding a V30 for the past few weeks.
I was actually starting to convince myself that TOWMBO's V30 really was a
fast bike... :-)
