Need to Repair Your SabMag Ignition Switch?

If wiggling the key in the ignition switch causes your tail light to
flicker or your bike feels like it's cutting off... chances are you'll
need to R&R the ignition switch. The ignition cyclinder is fine, but
what you'll find is that the plastic housing/cover at the bottom of the
switch is coming loose. This will cause an intermittent contact.

Knowing this you will have to remove the ignition switch assembly. Once
done, remove the plastic housing. Try not to mangle the plastic tabs on
the housing as you'll need to push the cover back into the ignition
cylinder. Clean all electrical contacts and retension (i.e. stretch
out) the springs. It would be helpful to put an anti-corrosion compound
(i.e. dielectric grease) on the electrical contacts. Once done, you'll
need to secure the plastic housing back into the ignition switch. If
the tabs aren't holding it TIGHT again to the ignition cylinder, you'll
need to be creative with tape. Use the good quality 3M type that stays
elastic and will hold for many years. It's important that the fit is
tight as everytime you turn your key the ignition cylinder is pushing
against that plastic housing.

I've performed this repair on 700Ss as well as Magnas and Sabres and have
had no problems since. If you don't want to deal with this type of
repair I've read that you can order just the plastic housing (with the
tabs) from Honda for under $30 or so.
